CALCULATING TOTAL PRICE
Most of the price of a HouseWerks' shelving unit is determined by the number of linear feet of shelves and vertical supports. The first step is to calculate the the number of linear feet of shelves and vertical supports. During the design process, HouseWerks always ask for lengths of shelves or vertical supports in inches. However, when calculating prices for a quote, all measurements are converted to linear feet (lf).
SPECIFICATIONS
For our example, let's consider a shelving unit with seven 88" long shelves and three 91" long vertical supports. The shelf depth is 12" and the shelf thickness is 2". The shelf ends on the left side of the shelving unit abut a wall and are ordered without veneer. The shelf ends on the right side have 45°-angled shelf ends with full veneer.
CONVERSION OF DIMENSIONS TO LINEAR FEET
The number of linear feet of shelves is calculated as follows: 7 X 88" = 616 linear inches, and dividing 616 by 12, linear inches are converted to 51.33 linear feet.
The number of linear feet of vertical supports is calculated by the following: 3 X 91" = 273 linear inches, which is equivalent to 22.75 linear feet.
PRICE OF SHELVES
If the shelves are priced at $17.95/linear foot, the price of the shelves would be $921.37 [51.33-lf X $17.95/lf].
PRICE OF VERTICAL SUPPORTS
The vertical supports are priced at $5.95/linear foot, the price of the vertical supports is $135.36 [22.75-lf X $5.95].
PRICE OF THE SHELF ENDS
The shelving unit has seven shelves with 45-degree angled shelf ends covered with veneer. At $24.95 per veneered shelf end, the price for this option is $174.65.
PRICE OF THE FINISH FOR THE SHELVES
If the finish for the shelves is priced at $7.95/linear foot, the price would be $408.07 [51.33-lf X $7.95/lf].
PRICE OF THE FINISH FOR THE VERTICAL SUPPORTS
If the finish for the vertical supports is priced at $5.95/linear foot, the price would be $135.36 [22.75-lf X $5.95/lf].
PRICE OF SHIPPING AND HANDLING
The shipping fee is charged only for the shelves, not the vertical supports. The shipping fee, priced at $5.95/lf is $305.41 [51.33-lf X $5.95/lf].
CALCULATIONS LEADING TO FINAL PRICE OF THE SHELVING UNIT
The subtotal price of all of the shelving options selected is $2,080.22.
Because the Shelf Depth selected was 12", the price for the shelving unit is multiplied by the Price Multiplication Factor established for all shelf depths that exceed 11". The price multiplication factor is 1.05. This results in a revised subtotal of $2,184.23.
With the quantity discount of 6.55%,
the final price is $2,041.16, a savings of $143.07.
